Homes With Good Walkability Rates For Sale in Pinole, Hercules

The obesity epidemic in America has been well-documented.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight and half of overweight people are obese (one-third of the adult population overall).

A new study has released the latest figures on obesity rates in Contra Costa and Alameda counties. Both are below the national numbers.

Diet and exercise are obvious solutions to this problem. Walking is considered one of the best ways to get daily exercise because it's easy to do, it can be done by most age groups and it's relatively injury-free.

With that in mind, we thought we'd take a look this week at homes for sale that are within walking distance of shopping centers, schools, parks and other facilities.

Overall, Pinole has a walkability score from walkscore.com of 47. The site describes Pinole as a city where most errands require a car.

However, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 2839 Estates Ave. has a walkability score of 71. It's listed at $379,900 and is described as being "close to schools, shopping, transportation and entertainment."

Hercules has an overall walkability rating of 44. It is also rated as "car dependent."

However, this three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 2045 Clark St. has a walkability rating of 57. It's listed at $399,950.
