AAA Now Sending Motorcycles To Roadside Assistance Calls In Contra Costa County

AAA members needing roadside assistance in parts of Contra Costa County might now get help a little more quickly thanks to a pilot program.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- Members of AAA who are in need of roadside assistance in parts of Contra Costa County might now get help a little more quickly thanks to a new motorcycle pilot program that just kicked off.

The week-old program has been in effect along the state Highway 24 and Interstate Highway 680 corridors and includes the cities of Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville and San Ramon, according to AAA spokesman John Moreno.

The idea, Moreno said, is that motorcycles are better able to navigate the region's often-horrendous traffic during the morning and evening commute hours. The motorcycle patrol personnel are equipped to deal with minor vehicle problems, including flat tires, lockouts and empty gas tanks.

"We try to get to AAA members within 30 minutes," Moreno said. "Obviously, in Bay Area traffic that's not always easy to do."

The association hopes to shave significant time off response times by employing the motorcycle service.

The service is only available to AAA members, Moreno said.

The new patrol is on duty Monday though Friday during peak commute times.
