CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- The city of Pittsburg has approved a new cannabis manufacturing plant on the industrial site that used to be the Camp Stoneman U.S. Army base.

The facility could be operational by the summer of 2020.

There won't be any cannabis sales associated with the Clark Avenue facility, however: the plant, which will be called Stoneman Laboratories LLC, plans to process both medical and non-medical cannabis products, and distribute them to licensed retailers.

Currently, there are only four licensed cannabis distribution plants in all of Contra Costa County -- all in Richmond. By comparison, there are 113 such facilities in the city of Oakland alone.

According to ABC 7 News, Jordan Davis, an assistant to Pittsburg city manager Garrett Evans said the new facility will eventually create between 20 and 100 jobs.
