Goal is to make campus violence "a thing of the past." A Wednesday coffee for parents with "Sandy Hook Promise" founder also planned.

PLEASANT HILL, CA – The first-ever Contra Costa County Safe Schools Summit, featuring the official launch of the partnership between the Contra Costa County Office of Education and Sandy Hook Promise will be held Wednesday in Pleasant Hill, with keynote speaker Nicole Hockley, founder and managing director of the Sandy Hook nonprofit.
"The goal of the event is to promote a culture of connectedness and inclusion, where schools and communities come together to support young people so that violence on school campuses becomes a thing of the past," according to CCCOE officials.
Prior to the summit, which begins at 9 a.m., Hockley will speak from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to local parents from throughout Contra Costa County. The event will be at the Pleasant Hill Community Center, 320 Civic Drive in Pleasant Hill. Details here.

At the summit, which will include teams from school and community college districts, law enforcement and the PTA, CCCOE will detail its new partnership with the national non-profit Sandy Hook Promise, and will address such efforts to prevent, prepare, and respond to incidents of violence on school campuses as the Know the Signs programs. These no-cost programs are currently kicking off in middle and high schools throughout Contra Costa County, officials said.
