National Running Day: Where Are the Best Routes in Pleasant Hill?
Wednesday, June 5 is National Running Day. Share your favorite running spots in Pleasant Hill and find out about upcoming local running events.

Runners are lacing up their shoes and hitting the pavement, track or trail in honor of National Running Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday in June.
Pleasant Hill runners can be seen every day pounding along the Iron Horse Trail, around the parks and on the streets.
So for all the runners in town — and those who wish they had the motivation, desire or ability to join them — here are ways to celebrate National Running Day:
- Go for a run! Grab a friend and introduce them to the sport.
- Register for a local race. This is a great motivator, whether you're an experienced runner who has grown bored with the usual workouts or someone looking to be more athletic. The Firecracker 5K Fun Run takes place July 4 and is a good place to start for beginners.Â
- Read about running. Try Born to Run, the 2009 bestseller by Christopher McDougall that inspired a lot of people to hit the trails — many of them barefoot.Â
- Find a running group. It's a good option if you're looking for motivation, tips and new friends. Browse through nearby running clubs on MeetUp.com, like the "Run for Wine" group in Pleasant Hill. Whatever inspires you to get moving, you know?
- Be healthier. Getting adequate sleep, eating your vegetables and drinking lots of water will make you feel better, which translates into better running.Â
- Download some running jams. Rocking some tunes can help you through the lowest moments of your run. Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run," Michael Jackson's "Beat It," and "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor are classics.Â
And if National Running Day isn't your thing, don't fear. National Donut Day is coming up on Friday.
