Pleasant Hill Cannabis Ordinance To Be Considered By City Council

The city's moratorium on marijuana-related businesses is set to expire and no further extensions are permitted.

PLEASANT HILL, CA — The Pleasant Hill City Council will on Monday night consider a proposed ordinance that would adjust zoning to allow two medical cannabis business to set up shop in the city, and would prohibit other marijuana-related businesses from operating locally.

The proposed amendment would prohibit any sales of recreational-use cannabis, any non-storefront cannabis-related businesses within the city, and dictates medical retail businesses be allowed in specific zoned districts. Cannabis delivery originating from a retailer outside of Pleasant Hill would be allowed.

As have many other Bay Area cities, Pleasant Hill — in December 2017 — adopted a temporary moratorium on all commercial cannabis uses, except deliveries originating from outside the city. The moratorium has been extended twice, largely to give the city time to craft a local ordinance as
state law was still evolving. That moratorium will expire Dec. 4, and no further extensions are permitted.
