Pleasant Hill To Attempt World Record For Largest Swimming Lesson
The Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District will host a mass swimming lesson at Aquatic Park Pool on June 18 as part of a national world record attempt.

Local swimmers have an opportunity to make a world record June 18, when Pleasant Hill will participate in the world's largest swimming lesson.Â
The free event takes place at Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18. Pre-registration is required.Â
The national and worldwide attempt at the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson is part of a awareness campaign to spread the world that "swimming lessons save lives," according to a press release from the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District.
Swimming is a live-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14, according to The World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) website. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a collaborative effort by water safety and training organizations nationwide.
Research shows if a child doesn’t learn to swim by the third grade, they likely never will, states WLSL.
Check in for the Pleasant Hill event begins at 7:30 a.m. June 18 at Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park Pool, 147 Gregory Lane.  All students must have a signed aquatics liability waiver on file and be in place and ready to start the lesson at 8 a.m. in order to qualify for the Guinness World Record attempt.
