Relay for Life Pleasant Hill Raises $55,000

A total of 55 teams participated in the event June 1 and 2 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Pleasant Hill stood up to cancer last weekend, with more than 400 people taking part in the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" event. A total of 55 teams ran and walked a track at Pleasant Hill Middle School over the course of two days, raising $55,000.

Over 100 cancer survivors started the relay with a "survivor lap" and caregivers were honored during the "caregiver lap." The event closed with a "fight back ceremony" and lost loved ones were honored throughout the two-day relay by way of team names, signs and lanterns lining the track in the evening.

Relay for Life Pleasant Hill still hopes to reach its $80,000 fundraising goal with further fundraising being held in the coming months, according to the Relay for Life Pleasant Hill Facebook page.
