'Save The Dome' Committee To Rally Monday Night

A group of locals opposing the demolition of Pleasant Hill's CinéArts 'dome' theater will hold a pep rally in Concord from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1.

The fate of Pleasant Hill's 'dome' theater is all but sealed as plans move ahead for redevelopment of the shopping center, but fans of the decades-old cinema are holding out hope.

A group of locals forming a "Save the Dome" committee will hold a pep rally in Concord Monday evening to rouse support during a 10-day appeal period. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at .

Last Tuesday, March 26, the Pleasant Hill Architectural Review Commission approved preliminary plans to bulldoze the CinéArts theater and build a Dick's Sporting Goods store in its place.

The theater, known as the 'dome' for its shape, has been around since 1967. Locals remember watching movies there that would become classics in the years ahead, including "Star Wars", "Jurassic Park", "E.T.", "Snow White", "The Sound of Music" and more.
