Sen. Dodd: Free Tax Preparation Assistance

Senator Bill Dodd reminds residents to see if they qualify for Free Tax Preparation Assistance and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

With the April 17th deadline for filing your taxes, Senator Bill Dodd wants to make sure you know about some free tax preparation services available through the California Franchise Tax Board's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.

When preparing income tax returns, people often run into problems or become lost in the maze of forms and rules, especially when there are changes in the state or federal tax laws. The VITA program offers help to all eligible taxpayers, regardless of age, while the TCE program devotes special attention to senior citizens.

You may also qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). "I helped champion the creation of California's EITC, which provides even more money to working families, and I want to make sure every eligible taxpayer gets the money they're owed," said Senator Bill Dodd. Many eligible families are still unaware that these tax credits could provide thousands of dollars.
