Share Your Ideas For the Future of the Contra Costa Fire District
Town hall meetings will be held to consider how the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District can best operate amid budget cuts.

A consulting firm is hosting a series of town hall meetings seeking input from the public on how the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District can best operate in the wake of budget cuts.
In February 2013, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, serving as the Board of Directors of the Fire District, approved a contract with Fitch and Associates, LLC to conduct a study of District operations and "make recommendations for future service delivery options," according to a press release.
The following information is from the Contra Costa County Administrator's Office:
The District has been dealing with severe budget cuts that have resulted in decreased services and fire station closures. Voters did not pass a parcel tax measure last Fall, which would have helped to maintain existing fire suppression service levels.
There will be three town hall meetings scheduled for the week of August 19th. Each meeting will include a public education component regarding the study and a public forum – a chance for citizens to speak directly with the consultants regarding their views of District service delivery and operations.
The meetings will take place at the following locations:
Date: Monday, August 19th
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Pittsburg Community Library
80 Power Avenue Pittsburg, CA 94565
Date: Tuesday, August 20th
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Lafayette Veteran’s Memorial Bldg. 3780 Mount Diablo Boulevard
Lafayette, CA 94549
Date: Wednesday, August 21st
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Clayton Community Library 6125 Clayton Road Clayton, CA 94517
Supervisor Candace Andersen of District II stated that citizen engagement in the study process is key to its success. “Citizens offer direct, practical feedback that is critical to evaluating the future of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District,” Andersen added.
Fitch plans to present study findings to the Board of Supervisors in January 2014. For more information regarding Fitch and Associates, LLC and the Fire Study, please visit http://www.cccounty.us/ConFireStudy.
