Successful DVC Basketball Coach Ready For Next Challenge

Vaughn pursuing opportunities with four-year schools after guiding Diablo Valley College to 207-92 career record, 2018-19 state title

Diablo Valley College women’s basketball coach Ramaundo Vaughn, who built the DVC program into a state power during a successful 10-year run, have decided to part ways.

Vaughn had an overall record of 207-92 dating to the 2010-11 season, including winning the school’s first CCCAA Women’s Basketball State Championship in 2018-19.

In a school release, DVC thanked Vaughn for his decade-long commitment and his work with the young women who were under his tutelage, and wished him "nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”

Vaughn wants to pursue other opportunities at four-year schools during a time of uncertainty for college sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in which the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) has decided to push basketball back to the spring, among other sweeping changes.

Vaughn exits DVC with fond memories and a lot of people to thank.

“I would like to thank former chancellor Helen Benjamin, current chancellor Eugene Huff, former DVC president Peter Garcia, athletic director Christine Worsley and men's basketball coach Steve Coccimiglio for their tremendous support,” Vaughn said this week.

“My staff and I took over a program that had little success prior to our arrival and turned it into a state powerhouse. I'm most proud of the fact that we were able to provide post junior college educational and athletic opportunities for over 30 young women and that by doing community service in the Pleasant Hill community we showed those young ladies what it meant to give back to their communities," he continued.

Vaughn’s Vikings won three Big 8 Conference championships and he was selected conference Coach of the Year three times. Individually, the Vikings had five Big 8 MVPs and earned two California Co-Player of the Year awards.
