Can you believe it's August already? Soon the kids will be back to school and the stores will start decorating for the holiday season. But there are still plenty of things to do in Pleasant Hill to enjoy the sunshine and easy breezy days of summer. See below for what's coming up around town this week.
National Night Out
Community members are invited to join Pleasant Hill police for the 6th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and celebrate "America's Night Out Against Crime." The event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the lawn in front of Pleasant Hill City Hall at 100 Gregory Lane and will include free hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, face painting and a bounce house along with an informational booth and demonstrations from police and emergency services. Click here for more information.ÂFarmers' Markets
Find fresh and local produce at the Pleasant Hill farmers' markets at Pleasant Hill BART from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and in downtown Pleasant Hill from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturdays.Summer Poetry
"Spoken Word in the Sand: Summer Poetry without Sunscreen" is a poetry reading and open mic hosted by JFK University's Liberal Studies Program on Friday, Aug. 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at John F Kennedy University, 100 Ellenwood Way, Pleasant Hill. The event is free to the public and any willing performers of poetry.American Iron Car Show
Pre-80's American cars will be on display in downtown Pleasant Hill Sunday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the 12th Annual American Iron Car Show. Register your car for a $28 fee.
