Things to Do in Pleasant Hill: Follow the Trails

This series highlights local attractions and activities in Pleasant Hill. How about walking or cycling the Iron Horse Trail and the Contra Costa Canal Trail?

Pleasant Hill is certainly the "center of everything" when it comes to two major trails in the area: the Contra Costa Canal Trail and the Iron Horse Trail.

These two trails meet on the border of Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek, where the Iron Horse Trail travels north to the Pleasant Hill BART station and the Contra Costa Canal Trail continues west and then north up through Pleasant Hill.

The trails are ideal for walking and cycling, with paved paths and secluded stretches. Start in Pleasant Hill and take the Iron Horse Trail south through Walnut Creek and even all the way to Pleasanton, or head north to Concord. The Contra Costa Canal Trail starts in Pleasant Hill at the Pacheco border on Chilpancingo Parkway and runs all the way down past Geary Road and into Walnut Creek before continuing on towards Lime Ridge Open Space.

Information about the Iron Horse Trail and a trail map is available on the East Bay Regional Parks District website.

Information about the Contra Costa Canal Trail and a trail map is also available on the East Bay Regional Parks District website.
