What Are the Best Programs at the Pleasant Hill Library?

From storytime, chess and lego to conversational English classes — the library offers free activities every day. What's your favorite event on the library calendar?

The Pleasant Hill Library is a place of refuge for literature lovers, homework helpers and storytime enthusiasts. But look closer and you'll find more than just books at the library — there are game nights, classes and even fresh fruits and vegetables.

Check out the events coming up at the library this week:

Doorstep Farmers: Tuesday, Aug. 6, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Pick up your box of organic fruits and vegetables every week at the Pleasant Hill Library by signing up with Doorstep Farmers, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) service that supports the local agricultural community and sustainable healthy living. Doorstep Farmers now delivers locally grown produce to the Pleasant Hill Library and all subscribers have the choice of a 5 percent discount or donating 5 percent to the library.

Storytime: Wednesday, Aug. 7, 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m
Discover the world of words with your child through songs, movement, and simple stories. Ideal for ages 0 to 5. All children welcome.

English Conversation Practice for Adults: Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1:30 p,m, to 2:30 p.m.
Come practice and improve your English conversation skills in an informal, small group setting. Sessions are free and registration is NOT required.

Storytime: Thursday, Aug. 8, 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m
Discover the world of words with your child through songs, movement, and simple stories. Ideal for ages 0 to 5. All children welcome.

Teen Chess & Board Game Afternoons: Friday, Aug. 9, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Gather for friendly chess matches or raucous Apples to Apples tournaments. The Pleasant Hill Library has a variety of board games such as checkers, Connect Four, Pictionary, Candyland, Scrabble, and Battleship. A fun way to start your weekend with other teens.

Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library Board Meeting: Saturday, Aug. 10, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library is an organization dedicated to improving library services in Pleasant Hill. The board meeting is open to the public and will be held in the library's Public Meeting Room.

Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library General Membership Meeting: Saturday, Aug. 10, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library is an organization dedicated to improving library services in Pleasant Hill. General membership meetings are open to the public and will be held in the library's Public Meeting Room.

One-on-One Computer Tutor: Saturday, Aug. 10, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Reserve an appointment for a one-hour, one-on-one computer training session with one of the Pleasant Hill Library's volunteer computer tutors. Tutors are available to assist new computer users in learning the basics: setting up email accounts, printing and saving on the library's computers, using Microsoft Word, and conducting basic internet searches. Select tutors may also offer assistance on digital gadgets like laptops, smart phones, eReaders, and cameras. 

Lego Creators Club: Saturday, Aug. 10, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Drop in to our weekly meet-up of creative builders. Make anything you chose with the library's large collection of bricks. New themes and challenges every Saturday in the Public Meeting Room.

Volunteer Orientation: Saturday, Aug. 10, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Want to help support your community and your local library? Want to volunteer at the Pleasant Hill Library? Pick up an application at the library and get started with our Volunteer Orientation. You will tour the library with a trained staff member who will also go over the ins and outs of volunteering at the library.
