Two Lost Hikers Rescued Near Cuyamaca Peak

The two men became lost without food or water Saturday night. They were found Sunday morning.

Two 23-year-old hikers that became lost near Cuyamaca Peak Saturday night were found Sunday morning hungry and thirsty but otherwise safe, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The two men called for help around 9:35 p.m. and reported that they were lost in thick brush without food or water, according to Sgt. Don Parker. The hikers were on the west side of the peak in Cuyamaca State Park.

Low clouds and fog prevented a helicopter search, but 26 searchers from the sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, San Diego Mountain Rescue Team, and the Border Patrol set out on foot to locate the lost hikers. Search teams gathered at the Paso Pichacho Campground at midnight to begin the search.
