Clevenger Fire Burns 50 Acres Near Ramona

Firefighters said they stopped the forward progress of a wildfire that was making a push toward the top of Juanita Ridge.

RAMONA, CA — Fire crews stopped the forward spread of a 50-acre vegetation fire north of state Route 78 on Monday, Cal Fire said. Firefighters were able to gain 50 percent containment over the blaze, which has been burning since Sunday.

The "Clevenger Fire" ignited around 5 p.m. on Sunday near Clevenger Trails and breifly prompted the closure of Highway 78 from Horizon View to San Pasqual, according to Cal Fire.

"The forward rate of spread has been stopped, at 50 acres," Cal Fire and San Diego County Fire tweeted Sunday night. "Firefighters will continue to work throughout the day, building containment [lines]. Hwy 78 has been reopened. Please drive cautiously if in the area."

One firefighting crew at the scene said the fire was consuming light flashy fuels with a slow-to-moderate rate of spread and making a push up to the top Juanita Ridge.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department was sending a full response, the agency said.
