Armed Standoff Ends After Eight Hours

Domestic disturbance escalates after an armed man refuses to surrender to deputies.

A standoff between an armed man who refused to come out of a residence in Ramona and Sheriff's deputies ended Saturday morning after eight tense hours, according to the Sheriff's Department.

A SWAT detail used chemical agents to encourage the man, identified as 43-year-old Carl Jones, to surrender. Just before 10 a.m. Saturday, Jones came out of the residence at 23610 Galeria Circle unarmed and was arrested on weapons and domestic violence charges.

The incident began when a child called authorities Friday night to report that his parents were arguing. Responding deputies found several neighbors trying to calm Jones, who had locked himself in a bathroom, according to the Sheriff's Department. When deputies approached, they heard a gunshot from behind the bathroom door.
