Heat Wave Prompts Heat Advisory For Ramona

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for parts of the county as a heat wave​ moves into the region heading into the weekend.

RAMONA, CA — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Wednesday for parts of San Diego County as a heat wave moves into the region heading into the weekend.

The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Saturday in the mountain and valley areas of the county, including Ramona. An excessive heat warning will also be in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday through 9 p.m. Saturday in the county deserts.

High pressure will build throughout the week over the southwestern U.S., with temperatures expected to peak on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures in the deserts could hit 119 on Thursday, 122 on Friday and 120 on Saturday, forecasters said. Highs in the western valleys could reach 99 on Friday, while highs near the foothills are expected to be in the low 100s from Thursday through Saturday.

High temperatures Wednesday are forecast to reach 76 degrees near the coast, 83 inland, 87 in the western valleys, 97 near the foothills, 101 in the mountains and 118 in the deserts.

The National Weather Service urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside," forecasters said. "Whenpossible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening."

Forecasters also reminded residents that young children and pets should be never be left unattended in vehicles, with interiors able to reach deadly temperatures in minutes.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke," forecasters said. "Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911."
