Helicopter Comes to the Rescue of Injured Hiker

A hiker who lost her footing and fell nearly 30 feet near the Three Sisters Waterfalls east of Ramona Sunday afternoon was rescued by a Sheriff's helicopter, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Two CalFire rescue specialists were lowered to the injured hiker and assessed her injuries. The 56-year-old hiker was then hoisted onto the helicopter just after 1:15 p.m. and brought to the Ramona Fire Station, where paramedics treated her for shock and a compound fracture of her forearm, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The area where the hiker was injured is near a creek that feeds into the San Diego River and is surrounded by steep canyon walls. The crew aboard the helicopter used the public-address system to locate the injured hiker due to the high number of hikers on nearby trails.
