Cal Fire reported a 750-acre fire near Banner Grade Sunday afternoon, after firefighters spent four days battling a 2,650-acre fire nearby.

The report of the fire, being dubbed the General Fire, came in just after noon and authorities said the fire was burning up toward Granite Mountain.

California Highway Patrol is reporting an arsonist may have started the fire and may be in custody.

The fire will burn where last year's Banner Grade Fire burned, CHP said.

Firefighters requested state Route 78 be closed between Wynola Road east of Julian and county Highway S-2 at Scissors Crossing. But CHP officers on that 10-mile stretch of road said conditions were rapidly changing, and the road from Julian to Imperial County was open but being watched.
