San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob Sworn in for Record-Setting Seventh Term

Jacob represents District 2, which includes the community of Ramona.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob was sworn in Monday for a record-setting seventh term.

The District 2 representative has now held elective office longer than any person in San Diego County government history.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust that East County voters have placed in me over the years,” said Jacob, who was first elected supervisor in 1992. “I will continue to do all I can to live up to that trust.”

Jacob, who is set to serve as this year’s board chair, announced she will deliver the 2017 State of the County speech on Feb. 1 at the County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa.

The theme of the speech, she said, is “Seven in ’17: Seven ways to better serve the public and prepare for the future.” She plans to offer proposals to address several major challenges facing the county.

Voters re-elected Jacob over challenger Rudy Reyes in June 2016 to represent District 2, drawing 73 percent of the vote. The largest of the five districts, District 2 includes more than 50 communities, including Ramona, as well as the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Poway and Santee.

Prior to joining the board, Jacob served as a public school teacher in East County and was a member of the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District Board for 17 years. She was also active in the California School Boards Association and served as its president in 1987.

Jacob, at her request, was sworn in by San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore at the Board Chambers in the San Diego County Administration Center. She surpassed the years-in-office record held by David Bird, who served as supervisor from the 1940s to 1960s.

Supervisor Greg Cox and first-term Supervisor Kristin Gaspar were also sworn in during the ceremony.
