Santa Ana Winds Raise Wildfire Risk Again In Ramona

SDG&E warned that 50,483 customers in eastern San Diego County could face public safety power shutoffs due to the weather conditions.

RAMONA, CA — Gusty Santa Ana winds and low humidity will significantly raise the risk of wildfires Monday and Tuesday in the San Diego County mountains and inland valleys, including in Ramona, according to the National Weather Service.

A red flag warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday in the mountains and valleys. Humidity levels will drop to around 10 percent, with poor recovery expected overnight, according to the weather agency.

"Any fires that develop will spread rapidly," forecasters said. "Outdoor burning should be avoided."

A high wind warning will also be in effect from 10 p.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday in the mountains and valleys.

Winds out of the east are expected to be between 30 to 40 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 65 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The strongest winds are expected in the inland valleys.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines," forecasters said. "Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

San Diego Gas & Electric warned that 50,483 customers in eastern San Diego County could face public safety power shutoffs from Monday night through Wednesday, depending on the severity of the wind and potential for damage to power lines. By Monday afternoon, 49 customers in Descanso and Valley Center were without power.

SDG&E opened a Community Resource Center at 29200 Cole Grade Road in Valley Center. The drive-thru center is open from 1-10 p.m. and offers water, snacks, cell phone and medical device charging, ice, water for animals, outage updates and cold weather supplies.
