Though the Federal Aviation Administration canceled the closure of the Ramona Airport traffic control tower last week, the fate of the local necessity remains unknown come the end of the federal fiscal year in September.
It was announced in March that the local traffic control tower, along with 148 towers across the nation, would close due to federal budget cuts. The closure was pushed back to June and eventually canceled last week after a shifting of funds—$253 million—within the Department of Transportation.
"Our office recommends that Ramona residents send written correspondence to the same set of officials we previously suggested, when the tower closure issue first arose," a statement from Supervisor Dianne Jacob's office said.
