New LED Street Lights for Rancho Bernardo

Information Provided by the Rancho Bernardo Community Council

New LED Street Lights:

As some of you may have noticed over the past few months, the City has been replacing the street light bulbs with new LED bulbs. One of the reasons for doing so is that the fixtures in our area are very old and parts and bulbs are no longer available. The technology has been updated and LED is now the standard. All the fixtures in the Rancho Bernardo area are 3000 Kelvin which is a warmer color temperature as it is within 35 miles of the observatories.

Some residents have commented that the lights are now shining into their homes. The lights do have dimming capability on a case by case basis depending on the location, so that the City can be sure not to dim the lights below appropriate lighting standards. The City has also coordinated with the contractor performing the retrofits and they are in the process of ordering shields for some of the lights in question.
