San Diego County Sheriff's Department: Death Investigation
Two counts of 245(a)(4) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On May 30, 2021, at about 4:00 p.m., deputies at the San Diego Central Jail found an inmate, thirty-five-year-old Lester Daniel Marroquin, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, Marroquin was pronounced deceased at the facility.

Marroquin was booked into custody by the San Diego Police Department on December 18, 2020 and was in custody for the charges of:
Two counts of 245(a)(4) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Two counts of 243(d) PC – Battery with Serious Bodily Injury
69 PC – Obstruct / Resist Executive Officer
594(a)(b)(2)(a) PC – Vandalism Less than $400
The Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. Marroquin was in a cell by himself and no evidence of foul play was discovered.
The Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled Marroquin's autopsy tomorrow. The victim's family has been notified of his death.
