San Diego County Supervisors Pass $19K Pay Raise

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to alter the way their pay is calculated, which would increase their salaries by more than $19,000 a year.

The supervisors currently make 80 percent of the base salary of Superior Court judges, or around $153,000 per year.

The new formula, approved on the supervisors' consent calendar without comment, would raise the mark to 85 percent on March 17 and 90 percent one year from now.

In his written proposal to change the pay structure, Supervisor Ron Roberts noted that the salary ordinance hasn't been adjusted in 18 years. In the last eight years, salaries under the current formula have increased 7.17 percent.

The pay hikes will cost the county an extra $17,688 in the remainder of the current fiscal year, and $88,438 for the next fiscal year, according to his report.

Outgoing Supervisor Dave Roberts cast the lone dissenting vote.
