Blackout Leaves Thousands Without Power In Rancho Bernardo Area

The outage affected customers​ in the Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, San Pasqual and Del Dios areas, according to SDG&E.

SAN DIEGO — A power outage left thousands of homes and businesses without electrical service Thursday morning in northern San Diego.

The blackout initially affected 3,173 utility customers in the Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, San Pasqual and Del Dios areas, according to San Diego Gas & Electric's online outage map.

The outage began shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to SDG&E. By midday, repair crews had restored electrical service to all but 209 of the affected addresses. Those customers were expected to have power restored in the early evening.

The cause of the outage was under investigation.
