West Overpowers New England in Little League World Series

The Sweetwater Valley players won't have long to savor their victory.

The Sweetwater Valley team improved its record to 2-1 in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania Monday night as it sent New England home.

But the local kids from Bonita won’t have much time to savor their victory--their next game is Tuesday night against Great Lakes. Game time 5 p.m. on ESPN2.

A six-run explosion in the third inning carried West to a 10-3 win in six innings over New England at Lamade Stadium on Monday.

West scored in the third on an RBI single by Nate Nankil, an RBI single by Walker Lannom, and a home run by Jacob Baptista.

West hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for West came when Lannom homered in the sixth inning and Dante Schmid homered in the sixth inning.

Lannom racked up three RBIs on two hits for West.

Levi Mendez struck out 11 hitters en route to the West win. Mendez allowed two earned runs on four hits and no walks over six innings.

Dylan Demers took the loss for New England. He allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out seven.

New England jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A solo blast by Caleb Harris started the inning off. New England then tacked on more runs when Marchetti scored on an RBI single by Cam Adamec.

West piled on four more runs in the top of the sixth. Lannom kicked things off with a two-run home run, plating Nankil. That was followed up by Schmid’s solo blast.
