YMCA Announces New Executive Director at the Rancho Family YMCA

The Rancho Family YMCA has proudly served the community of Rancho Peñasquitos and surrounding areas since 1995.

SAN DIEGO – Oct., 15 2018 – Polly Dong has been named the new Executive Director of the Rancho Family YMCA in Rancho Peñasquitos, the organization announced recently. Dong was chosen for the role after a nationwide search.

“Polly is a natural leader with a keen business sense and passion for serving the community,” said Lisa D’Angelo, Area Vice President for the YMCA of San Diego County. “As a leader in the Y movement she’s worked hard to build strong teams, increase program quality and more – all to serve more people in an equal way, strengthening the lives of thousands.”

After fulfilling her commitment to Teach for America in 2009, the YMCA offered Dong an opportunity to oversee youth programs at the Mission Valley Y. Throughout her career with the Y she has held positions of Program Director, Department Head and Associate Executive Director. Dong also held the interim Executive Manager position for the Jackie Robinson Family Y during its grand reopening, and served in the same capacity with the South Bay Family Y.

“I chose to work for the Y because the mission and goals aligned with my own,” said Dong. “This new role for me is much more than a manager of a facility – it’s an opportunity to strengthen the community we serve. I’m already enjoying the collaborative teamwork and meaningful relationships at the Rancho Family Y and excited for what the future holds.”

Dong received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego (USD), where she also earned her Master of Science in Real Estate. A lifelong learner, she has continued her education within the Y serving on various councils. Dong is also very active in the community, serving on the Citizens Advisory Board on Police/Community Relations as a member, and as the sub-committee chair for Police Training. She is also part of Rotary International’s San Diego Breakfast Club and serves on the San Diego Alumni Council with Teach for America. She played NCAA Division I basketball for USD, and also played professionally overseas in Germany and Sweden.
