2017 FBI Crime Statistics Are Now Available

We do a quick comparison of 2016 to 2017 to see what crimes have gone up and which have gone down.

The FBI crime stat numbers are in for 2017 and we have a small graph to compare with 2016. Any category that has had an increase, is colored in red, a net decrease is colored in green and a total line with the overall variance numbers is in blue. You can look at the numbers yourself on the FBI website, here is 2016 and here is 2017.

It's great to see the reduction in violent crime and aggravated assault, but it is disheartening to see the rather large increases in property crime and larceny/theft. I imagine those increases are likely due to Propositions 47 and 57 which let a lot of people out of jail. We don't yet know how we stack up on the safest cities list yet, but I'm sure with the fine work our law enforcement offers perform, we're likely still high up on it.
