RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — It's the 13th year for Cox Communications to honor students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley who put academics first. In so doing, the club gives back gifts for the entire family to enjoy.

Cars lined up to receive their socially distanced gift bags in Rancho Santa Margarita, at the Bell Tower Plaza.

"There is no greater feeling than being able to give a loved one a gift during the holiday season," a spokesperson for Cox said.

Operation Holiday Homework provides club members an opportunity to shop for their entire family because they put academics first.

Every school day, members participate in Power Hour- homework help and after-school tutoring program. As the students stay on task, quiet, and respectful, they receive daily points. These points get tallied up and members use their points to shop for their families in our Operation Holiday Homework virtual gift boutique.

They even get to select a gift for themselves.

At the event, youth ages 7 to 18 years old received gifts for their entire family because they put academics first.

If a member can’t attend the Club in person due to COVID-19, they are able to participate by turning in a grade card showing if they are attending school and turning in their homework in whatever model of learning model they are currently enrolled in.

To remain safe and healthy, this year club members will be shopping from a catalog of predetermined gifts.

"Amazon and Target boxes have been arriving since the end of November," a spokesperson for the event said. The staff organized and wrapped the gifts then passed them out Thursday at a socially distanced drive-thru event at the Bell Tower Community Center.
