RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA —The Southland confronted strong Santa Ana winds and freezing temperatures Tuesday, prompting a flurry of National Weather Service warnings and advisories.

A wind advisory will be in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the Santa Ana Mountains of Orange County and the county's inland areas. Also expected were gale-force winds in the Southland's outer waters, with winds of 20 to 30 knots and waves of 10 to 16 feet.

How windy was it in Orange County overnight? The National Weather Service clocked the strongest wind gusts in the county as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fremont Canyon, in the Santa Ana Mountains, saw winds speeds of up to 71 miles per hour as of 10 a.m.

Elsewhere in the county, Trabuco Canyon experienced gusts over 60 miles per hour at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

San Clemente saw the strongest gusts of 57 miles per hour at 1:45 a.m.

Dove Canyon showed winds of 55 miles per hour at just after 5 a.m.

Silverado Canyon showed wind speeds at 49 miles per hour at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Wind speeds along the Ortega Highway area were gusting at 42 miles per hour at 2 a.m.

In Irvine, winds were clocked at 40 miles per hour before 4:30 a.m.

The NWS also said that "gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."
