RePlanet Recycling Closes Doors In Rancho Santa Margarita
The company closed all its sites in California, but other recycling options exist for locals to redeem cans and bottles.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — The rePlanet Buyback Center, a network of locations that paid cash for cans and bottles, terminated all employees and closed its 284 recycling sites throughout California Tuesday, including the ones in Orange County, according to a company statement.
Company officials cited a reduction in state fees, the depressed pricing of recycled aluminum and PET plastic, rising operating costs, minimum wage increases, plus health and workers compensation insurance, as factors for the shutdown, calling the business "no longer sustainable."
The corporation will file for Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors and will liquidate its assets, a rePlanet spokesperson said.
