Ladera Ranch-based South County Performing Arts (“SCPA”) will present its’ winter musical — “The Little Mermaid, Jr.”, all weekend at Tesoro High School Theatre, 1 Tesoro Creek Road, Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca, 92688.
“In ‘The Little Mermaid,’ Ariel is a character that never gave up on her dreams...,” said SCPA Founder Josh Vecchione. “She followed her heart. Ariel teaches us that dreams do come true.”

“We want our kids in the theatre to have the opportunity to dream, to reach for the stars, to believe in themselves and to always follow their heart,” Vecchione said.
Three different casts offer audiences a different theatrical experience each show.

Actors for shows this weekend range in age from age 8 and above — and primarily encompass children in the Ladera Ranch/South Orange County area.
These performers have been working hard each week since last fall in preparation for this weekend! SCPA teaches children of all ages and abilities how to act, sing, dance — and perform live on stage through its comprehensive musical theatre program.

SYNOPSIS:
“The weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life in THE ADDAMS FAMILY. The Addams Family features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents,” SCPA said.

Not only will they learn how to dance, but they will also learn acting, blocking, memorization, public speaking, and singing, stage makeup, and set design. WHO WE ARE:
JOSHUA VECCHIONE, Founder/President/Producer:
Joshua Vecchione has 25 years experience working and performing in theatre. The Orange County Register recognized Joshua for his work as artistic director of Quiet Zone Theatre (a deaf theatrical show performed entirely in American Sign Language), and received the “Apple Of My Eye” award from Davie McIntosh Company for his contributions to the deaf community. Joshua’s first degree is in Deaf Studies, and he has a B.A. in Psychology. He has also worked and performed in No Square Theatre for benefit shows such as Lagunatics and directed Lagunatots.He has also worked as director for Musical Theater Academy, putting on such plays as The Wiz, James and the Giant Peach, Cinderella, and Fiddler on the Roof to name a few shows. He is a proud father of three and has been recognized for donations and volunteer efforts to give back to the community. He has volunteered his time for LREF as MC for Ten Gallon fundraiser, LREF Awards, Bingo Night, Golf Tournament Benefit, Career Day, Talent Show and Back to School Night for Elementaries, Middle Schools and High Schools.
IRENE VECCHIONE, Co- founder/Artistic Director/Director/ Choreographer:
Irene Vecchione has a degree in Radio/TV/Film. She worked in the Disney Entertainment Department as a performer behind and in front of the scenes for the stage, TV specials, and commercials. She has directed and choreographed for over 20 years. She has performed in No Square Theater in Lagunatics, and has directed and choreographed for Lagunatots. She has worked with Musical Theater Academy as Director and Choreographer. She has worked on every show alongside her husband, Joshua, including Beauty and the Beast, Grease, High School Musical, Wizard of Oz, and Annie. She has also written and directed original plays such as Retrotales Cinderella, Retrotales Snow White, It Should’ve Been a Musical, Kids Do the Darndest Things, Make a Music Video Camp, and Bound for Broadway.
MICHAEL UPWARD, Musical Director:
Michael is a composer, pianist and musical director who has a Master of Arts in Music Composition. Michael graduated with honors from the University of California Riverside and wrote a Requiem Mass for Chorus, Soloists and Orchestra. His choral compositions have been performed throughout the United States for which he has received numerous awards. He has also written four full-length musicals including Anne of Green Gables which enjoyed a highly successful staged reading in Pasadena featuring Alison Arngrim (Nellie Olsen on Little House on the Prairie). Michael wrote two Nutrition Education musicals Indy Jo and the Template of Health and Mission Nutrition, the Musical! He has directed such shows as The Fantasticks, Guys & Dolls, Evita, Nunsense II, and Quilters, for which he won the Inland Empire’s Best Musical Direction. He was the conductor of the Moreno Valley Master Chorale and has guest conducted with the Riverside Master Chorale. He is now the Contemporary Music Director and Pianist at two large Catholic Churches in Orange County, and continues to work with Ladera Performing Arts. Michael has been a voter for the Los Angeles Ovation Theater Awards and also serves on the board of directors for a nationally known Gilbert & Sullivan touring company called Opera A La Carte.
