SMCHS Raises $300K At Eagle Classic Golf Tournament

Santa Margarita Catholic High School raised a record-breaking amount at the annual contest, hosted by Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — It was a record weekend for the Santa Margarita Catholic High School community, who $290,563 at the annual Eagle Classic Golf Tournament.

Covering both the north and south courses of the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club, 291 golfers teed off on March 18 in support of SMCHS.

The tournament was followed by a dinner buffet, attended by 360 golfers and guests. This year’s tournament raised funds for 31 of the school’s programs and sports teams. The “Luck of the Irish” was the theme for this post St. Patrick’s Day celebration, and among the lucky winners were the “Most Spirited Foursome” awarded to the team of Steve Siciliani, Jeannette Siciliani, Rick Nogueira and Semra Nogueira.

Golf was just one of the fundraising agenda items for the day. Various hole sponsors added to the fun, including a dunk tank sponsored by girls water polo parents; girls golf athletes offering to drive balls on behalf of participants; and track and field parents hosting an Irish-themed hole with food and a shot put game. In addition, the helicopter ball drop descended upon the greens dropping 8,850 golf balls sold prior to the tournament – awarding a cash prize to the lucky winner of the ball that landed closest to the hole.

Guests also had the opportunity to bid on a wide selection of auction items including a day of golf and dinner with SMCHS alumnus and professional golfer Beau Hossler, which went to Britt Rodgers. This year, members of the SMCHS Grandparents Club participated by netting $10,000 for their opportunity board; the funds of which will be applied to a grandparents’ scholarship fund for students with financial need.

Santa Margarita Catholic High School President Andy Sulick thanked the record-number of guests that attended which included parents, grandparents, alumni parents and twenty-two fellow Eagle alumni. Sulick also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the financial support of the event sponsors.

Closest to the Pin: Jeff Teasley (north course); Rami Elhassan and Mike Cassidy (south course)
