Traffic Alert: Santiago Canyon Crash Kills Two Overnight

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — A morning crash on the Santiago Canyon on-ramp to the 241 Foothill Transportation Corridor killed two people, the California Highway Patrol reported. That crash occurred at just before 9;30 p.m. Sunday night, when the roadway was closed to traffic.

The car crashed into a utility pole, downed power lines and became engulfed in flames. The Orange County coroner's office was called to the scene at about 10 p.m., the CHP said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert stopping traffic on Santiago Canyon Road in both directions of the toll road at 9:31 p.m. Sunday. The toll road was reopened at 10:54 p.m.

One lane of Santiago Canyon Road was reopened in each direction about 6:45 a.m. Monday, the CHP reported, with the remaining lanes expected to be reopened by 10 a.m.
