Box Fire Burning On Cajon Pass Started By Truck

One hundred acres burned 15-percent contained in the I-1 Cajon Pass mountain blaze. Two firefighters were injured fighting the fire Friday.

DEVORE, CA — Roughly 100-acres have burned, with 15% containment reported in the mountainous area near Devore in the Cajon Pass. The incident began when a box truck caught fire on the side of the road, San Bernardino Fire officials report. Two firefighters were reported with heat-related illness, Friday, according to official reports from the scene. At least one was airlifted to an area hospital.

Helicopters and fixed wing planes dropped water on the flames in an effort to contain the fire. The fast-moving event burned to the south and southeast, according to fire officials. The small town of Devore was threatened, but no reports of structure damage have been made as of this report.

An emergency call line was established for the Box Fire, as it has been named by the San Bernardino National Forest Service.

"Residents, visitors, commuters can a call (909) 383-5688 for information," the SBNFS said. There was a structure threat to Devore Heights, Friday, they said, however no evacuation orders where issued.
