Fatal Crash Snarled Highway 101 Traffic On Peninsula: CHP

The fatal crash involving a vehicle over an embankment that tied up the exits at Marsh Road and SR-84 has since cleared, according to CHP.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A fatal crash that tied up traffic as well as closed a lane and the on ramps on southbound U.S. Highway 101 at Marsh Road and State Route 84 between Redwood City and Menlo Park has since been cleared, the California Highway Patrol announced early Wednesday.

The Honda SUV was reported to have gone 15 feet into the embankment after hitting a flatbed truck then killing the driver in the incident called into CHP at 1:25 a.m. It was deemed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed.

The San Mateo County Coroner responded to the scene.

Motorists were diverted to Interstate 280 on the south end of the crash.

The north-to-south Peninsula artery experienced more problems for the Wednesday morning commute a little further south.

A disabled tractor trailer reported by CHP also blocked the right lane on southbound Highway 101 north of San Antonio Avenue in Mountain View. It has also since cleared.
