Downed Trees, Landslide, Power Outages, Rain Totals: Peninsula Storm Impacts

BREAKING: Here is some of the damage that's been reported around San Mateo County in this weekend's storm into Monday.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – With the wet weekend behind us and more rain on the way, emergency personnel in the Peninsula region reported several storm-related events over the past couple of days.

Seventy-two-hour rainfall totals from the National Weather Service indicate that more than six inches of rain fell in part of the region. As for elsewhere, the following totals were provided:

  • Russian Ridge Open Space: 6.26 in as of 3:59 a.m. Monday
  • Spring Valley Raws: 3.74 in as of 3:59 a.m. Monday
  • La Honda Raws: 3.32 in as of 4:07 a.m. Monday
  • Pulgas Raws: 2.52 in as of 4:18 a.m. Monday
  • San Francisco Airport: 2.23 in as of 3:56 a.m. Monday
  • Redwood City: 1.21 in as of 4:05 a.m. Monday

1:18 p.m. Monday:

SF PUC has advised San Mateo County that the The Pilarcitos Reservoir is over-topping at the rate of 100 Cubic feet per second (CFS). While some increased flow may be noticed on Pilarcitos Creek this is not expected to cause any flooding issues. SF PUC and San Mateo County are monitoring the situation.

12:49 p.m. Monday:

One N/B lane of SR-1 north of Reina Del Mar in Pacifica has been opened. The remaining lane will remain closed temporarily. Please drive carefully through the area.

7:18 a.m. Monday:

North and south bound lanes on Skyline Boulevard at County Road are closed due to fallen tree into power lines. Please use alternate routes. Drive safely!

12:15 a.m. Monday:

SR-1 north of Reina Del Mar in Pacifica is closed. Landslide. Use alternate routes. ETA for opening unknown.

7:38 p.m. Sunday:

Mountain Home Road reopened following a fallen tree.

4:45 p.m. Sunday:

Road closure due to fallen tree in the 700 block of Mountain Home Road in Woodside. North and south bound traffic closed until further notice. Please use alternate routes.

12:57 p.m. Sunday:

Highway 92 in the 12000 block (near Pilarcitos Creek) is currently closed in both direction due to the falling power pole. Fire and CHP are on scene. PG & E is in route. It is unknown as to when the roadway will be reopened. Please use alternate routes.

In addition to the above damages, PG&E reported that thousands across the Peninsula lost power in the storm. Crews will working through the morning to restore power and were expected to make significant progress toward restoring power to everyone Monday, according to spokesman J.D. Guidi.
