Pedestrian Struck By K9 Patrol Car In ICU: RC Police
The officer lost control of the vehicle on a wet El Camino Real and hit the man before crashing into the center divider near James Ave.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — A K-9 officer lost control of a patrol vehicle on the wet roadway and hitting a pedestrian Wednesday morning while responding to a possible home invasion robbery on Poplar Avenue and crashed into center median of El Camino Real south of James Avenue, the Redwood City Police Department reported.
The vehicle traveled across the center median of El Camino Real, striking the man who was standing on the median where the officer’s patrol vehicle crossed at about 10 a.m.
The pedestrian was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit as of Wednesday night.

The vehicle continued into the opposing lanes of traffic and collided with two other vehicles traveling northbound on El Camino Real before stopping on the east sidewalk.
The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center for his injuries, which are believed to be serious. The status of the pedestrian’s injuries are unknown.

The officer involved in the collision was also transported to a local hospital as a precaution and is being examined. The police K9 riding in the patrol car did not appear injured but is due to be assessed by a veterinarian.
The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash were looked at by responding paramedics and released at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol Redwood City's office, with assistance of the CHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team, is investigating the crash.

Both directions of El Camino Real between Jefferson and James avenues were shut down but have since opened as of Wednesday evening.
