Update: Fatal Crash Victim Identified, Road Reopens

Update 6:05 pm: 

A Redwood City woman killed in a fatal crash this morning was ejected from the car she was driving after it went off the road and struck a light pole, fence and fire hydrant, police said this afternoon.

Alma Cabrera-Villar, 20, was found face down in the roadway on the 1700 block of East Bayshore Road around 2:20 a.m. after police responded to a crash, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A Redwood City road has reopened after being shut down for nearly four hours after a fatal crash early this morning, according to police.

The sole victim in the crash has been identified as Alma Cabrera-Villar, 20, of Redwood City, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.

Upon the officer’s arrival, a female subject was found down in the roadway. Officers determined she was driver of the vehicle and was ejected during the collision. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel a short time later. 

The crash was reported at 4:17 a.m. near 1757 E. Bayshore Road, police said. The road reopened at 8:06 a.m., police said.

Redwood City police shut down traffic in both directions while the fatal accident was investigated.

The initial investigation has determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on E. Bayshore Rd. For a yet undetermined reason, the vehicle left the roadway just north of 1757 E. Bayshore Rd and struck a light pole.

The vehicle continued south across the roadway striking a fence and a fire hydrant. There is no indication that any other vehicle was involved in the collision.

It has not been determined at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. A passenger in the vehicle was treated for minor injuries.
