Grass Fire In Woodside Started From Illegal Campfire: Sheriff
The fire burned 1/10 acre near Toyon Campground on Friday morning.
WOODSIDE, CA —A grass fire that burned around 1/10 acre near Toyon Campground in Woodside on Friday morning was the result of an illegal campfire, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Alejandro Bello, a 20-year-old transient, was arrested by sheriff's deputies in connection with the fire. Deputies said that members of the Woodside Fire Department saw Bello leaving the area on a bicycle when they arrived at the scene. Bello had started a campfire earlier in the day but failed to fully extinguish it, leading to the grass fire igniting, according to the sheriff's office.
The fire was contained within hours, but not before a CalFire helicopter made multiple water drops.
