Man Convicted Of Peninsula Kidnapping Girl Decades Ago: SMC
The man took an 8-year-old girl hostage in 1995 on a $800,000 ransom. He released her upon not receiving payment, prosecutors said.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man accused of kidnapping an 8-year-old girl in 1995 but evaded capture for 22 years was found guilty of kidnapping on Thursday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Kevin Tayueh Lin, 69, was convicted by a jury on Thursday of one count of kidnapping after a two-week trial, prosecutors said.
Lin was accused of kidnapping an 8-year-old girl in Hillsborough on Dec. 11, 1995, and demanding $800,000 ransom. Prosecutors said he held her for 12 hours but then released her without receiving payment. The victim, now an adult, testified during the trial.

Prosecutors said Lin had worked with two accomplices: John Balocca, who was arrested and spent 18 years in prison, and Brian Shieh, who remains at large.
Lin was finally arrested in Los Angeles in December 2017. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 23.
