Man Arrested After Driving Past Roadblock For Obama Motorcade

A Mountain View man was arrested in Redwood City on Wednesday night after he allegedly drove past street barricades that were set up to keep clear a roadway for President Barack Obama’s motorcade.

Eddie Boyce, 49, was arrested when he allegedly drove around barricades in the 2200 block of El Camino Real and then drove past police who were trying to stop him. He crashed about 8:55 p.m. according to Redwood City police Sgt. Sean Hart.

The barricades were set up for Obama's motorcade, which was scheduled to pass through the area on the way to a fund-raising rally at the Fox Theater in downtown Redwood City.

 The president attended three fund-raising events in Atherton, Redwood City and San Jose during a 16-hour trip to the Bay Area.

 "There is no indication that he had any ill intent toward the president," Hart said. It also appears he did not know about the motorcade or that the roads would be closed Wednesday night.

 Boyce was arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer, hit-and-run causing property damage and driving on a divided highway.

No injuries were reported, Hart said, adding that police determined that Boyce was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Boyce was booked at San Mateo County jail.
