New Farmers’ Market Coming to Downtown
In addition to the Winslow parking lot Farmers' Market, the Rotary Club will be operating one on Tuesdays.
The will continue running on Saturdays from April through November this year as usual. But a new neighbor is setting up shop in town on Tuesdays from May through September
The Rotary Club plans to host a Farmers’ Market from 4 to 8 p.m. in the public right-of-way on Hamilton Street between Marshall and Winslow Streets and on Broadway from Theatre Way to Winslow Street.
Staff felt that the two markets would complement each other, given the differences in location and days of operation.

“Adding a new farmers market in Redwood City will bring additional environmental, health, and economic benefits to our community,” staff wrote in a memo.
Mayor Alicia Aguirre thanked the Rotary Club market organizers—Don Gibson, Lilia Ledezma, and Alpio Barbara—for their work in making this a reality.

The Saturday Kiwanis Club Farmers’ Market has been operating in the city for over three decades, so the city took the opportunity to update the existing agreement and open up requests to the public. The city received inquiries from two organizations requesting two additional farmers’ markets.
The second proposal comes from the West Coast Farmers’ Market for Fridays from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. in the parking lot at the (which is presently closed on Fridays), year round. This proposal requires further receive from the council and will be decided upon at a later date.
Why Farmers’ Markets?
The city has championed farmers’ markets that offer fresh, local produce from a variety of vendors. They offer fresh, seasonally-grown food that requires fewer miles traveled for delivery, cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions. They also encourage local consumerism, which keeps the dollars closer to Redwood City.
The farmers’ markets also serve as a community gathering place for neighbors to get to know each other and share in the bountiful produce offered to them.
