Peninsula Clean Energy To Give Discounts For Purchasing E-Bikes

The deal is part of an effort to raise awareness for biking as a viable, healthier and cleaner alternative mode of transportation.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Peninsula Clean Energy will provide discounts of up to $800 for San Mateo County residents if they buy an electric bicycle at participating shops.

The deal is part of the county’s “E-Bikes for Everyone” program, which is an effort to raise awareness for biking as a viable, healthier and cleaner alternative mode of transportation.

Peninsula Clean Energy is San Mateo County’s electricity provider. Redwood City Vice Mayor Giselle Hale, the city’s representative on Peninsula Clean Energy’s board of directors, said in a news release that the program will also help local businesses in recovery from the pandemic.

“The e-bike rebate program is so important as people are biking much more since we have been forced to reset transportation norms during the pandemic,” said Emma Shlaes, deputy director of Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition. “We now have a chance to maintain those norms and enable more people to e-bike as a way to get around and to go further, which helps the community meet its health and climate change goals.”
