"We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers this incredible opportunity to buy or lease a new electric vehicle and save thousands of dollars," said Jan Pepper, chief executive officer of Peninsula Clean Energy.

PCE has calculated that electric vehicles save their owners an average of $1,200 a year on fuel and maintenance costs compared to a gas-powered car.

California Assemblyman Kevin Mullin applauded the offerings.

"This program has tremendous benefits,” said Mullin, a San Mateo County resident who took advantage of the program in 2018. "The generous rebates and the ability to reduce my dependence on fossil fuels made it an easy decision for me."

The program is part of Peninsula Clean Energy’s comprehensive approach to electrifying transportation in San Mateo County. The effort also includes providing $4,000 incentives to low-income residents over the next four years as well as supporting schools and municipalities in electrifying their fleets.

Fossil-fueled transportation is by far the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions in San Mateo County, emitting 61 percent of the emissions countywide.

Formed in March 2016, Peninsula Clean Energy accessed through www.PeninsulaCleanEnergy.com is San Mateo County’s official electricity provider. It operates as a nonprofit energy agency that provides all electric customers in San Mateo County with cleaner electricity at low rates.

Peninsula Clean Energy saves its customers numbering about 290,000 accounts an estimated $18 million a year.
