Peninsula Humane Society Seeking Homes for Surrendered Pythons
The Humane Society/SPCA is trying to find experienced snake owners to adopt pythons that are ready to be placed in new homes.

PENINSULA AREA, CA -- The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is seeking experienced snake owners to adopt Ball Pythons that it's caring for, after the shelter says it has received more Ball Pythons in the last year than in any other year over the last decade.
“In the last twelve months, we received 10 Ball Pythons snakes in our shelter,” PHS/SPCA Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox explained. “Many of the snakes have been surrendered to us through no fault of their own, and are ready to placed in new homes.”
“We currently have five Ball Pythons available for adoption,” Tarbox said. “Potential adopters interested in meeting the snakes can visit us at our Center for Compassion located at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame.”

According to the PHS/SPCA, Ball Pythons make ideal pets since they are friendly and tend to be smaller in size, on average about two to three feet long once fully grown. PHS/SPCA staff has said that it can and will help potential adopters understand the equipment and husbandry required in order for this animal to thrive.
PHS/SPCA strongly encourages the feeding of frozen, defrosted mice or rats which are available at most pet supply stores. Feeding live rodents is considered unnecessary and inhumane for both the prey and the predator. Ball Pythons can live to be thirty years old with proper care.
