Podcasts To Air San Mateo County Transit Issues

The first podcast covers rail safety, a near-and-dear topic to Caltrain, which averages 13 pedestrian fatalities a year in the last decade.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Transportation is one of the most important issues facing San Mateo County.

With that, the San Mateo County Transit District wants to keep its residents along the San Francisco Peninsula apprised to what is going on in respect to the inner workings of the transit agency.

"Wheel Talk," the official podcast of the agency, debuts with a monthly release schedule. The podcast will address policy issues affecting SamTrans, Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority.

With an in-depth view of the agency operations, the podcast will be hosted by the pros — Public Affairs Specialists Alex Eisenhart and Dan Lieberman.

"Communicating with our customers and the general public about efforts to improve transportation in our region has always been a top priority for the district," District Chief Communications Officer Seamus Murphy said.

In recognition of Rail Safety Month, the first episode features Caltrain’s Deputy Director of Infrastructure Rob Scarpino and California Operation Lifesaver’s Executive Director Nancy Sheehan. The discussion focuses on safety improvements to Caltrain’s right-of-way and the public information effort around rail safety.

Over the last decade, Caltrain has averaged 13 fatalities from pedestrians on the tracks.

The next episode, which will focus on the benefits of San Mateo County’s Measure W, will be released in October.
